I finished the mold this weekend for the new pod and laid up the glass for the part, here's the pictures from start to finish, or at least to where I am now. Please excuse the "purpleish" hue to the images, my digital camera has a problem and needs to be sent off. Damn Olympus. The plug (from which the mold is made). This is the polyurethane sculpting foam that the part is cut and sanded from. The stuff that looks like it is painted on is tooling gel. It looks that way because it was painted on. :)

Black stuff is tooling gel, this is the first component of the mold.

This is the actual piece that was formed from the mold. It is not finished, still needs to be sanded, painted, and the face needs to be made (from Oak, stained and polyurethane coated) and the screen and controls fitted.

Here's the original prototype I built several months ago. It is also made from fiberglass but it doesnt fit quite as well as I liked, so I call it the prototype. :) Translation: the original was a fuckup that I learned from. :) The biggest problem I have had with it is the damn thing is loose in the corner and if ou stomp on the gas while turning a little to the left, the damn thing will come out of that corner and fly into my lap. The new piece fits in there like a glove and I dont expect it to go anywhere.
